This post was started in a sunny garden in Edinburgh and is being finished in a cozy living room in Glasgow. I planned to go over the week but as I'm pretty zonked it'll be a quick sum up for now and more soon.
This first week has been full and good. The summer interns for 20schemes had an orientation week in Niddrie (Edinburgh). We met the people of Niddrie Community Church, participated in prayer meetings and bible studies, learned some Scot do's and don'ts, heard good teaching, were challenged and encouraged. We worked a bit in the church cafe and saw the start of a church plant in the neighboring scheme of Bingham. We helped out (hopefully) with some cleaning and projects and met people in the community. It was particularly convicting and inspiring to see people in the ministry who had an urgency and overtness about the gospel and sharing it. One of the interns here said his favorite part of the week was the gospel immersion which was a good way to phrase it.
So much pointed to Jesus, in prayer and worship and scripture all through the day woven in.
There was also good fellowship and good laughter. I ate, slept and laughed more than I have in a while.
After a lovely afternoon off with the crew in Edinburgh (what a Beautiful city) yesterday, Savannah and I came to Barlanark (Glasgow) today with Pete Stewart and met the Stewart and Bell families (Aka "The Pete's") who we'll be spending the bulk of our time here with. They are the church planters in the scheme of Barlanark and while NCC is established and known, The Pete's are in the beginning stages of planting here. While we were sad to say goodbye to new friends in Niddrie, we're excited to be here with The Pete's and co, they're a fun bunch. It will be good to see what the Lord does in this time and we hope we can be useful while we're here.
Right now, tired and ready to sleep, I'm happy hearing songs strummed and sung in this cozy living room in Scotland that are familiar from my home church an ocean away.
